Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. , Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Faith Worship Center, Talladega for
Polly Gilbert Harris Farrington, 90, Childersburg (formally of Heflin), who passed away on Tuesday, April
5, 2016 in Sylacauga. Rev. Bobby Morgan and Wesley Allen will officiate. Burial will follow at Ashland
City Cemetery. Dryden Funeral Home is in charge.
Polly was born July 27, 1925 in Clay County, Alabama to R.Y. and Elizabeth Gilbert. She was a 1944
graduate of Clay County High School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. She later
attended Southern Union.
She retired November 1, 1985 with 36 years service as a Program Assistant from the U.S. Department of
Agriculture-Cleburne County Alabama Soil Conservation Service.
Polly was a member of Faith Worship Center in Talladega and was a former member of Heflin Baptist
Church for many years.
She loved her family and friends and cherished the time that was spent laughing and having fun
together. She had such a love and respect for the American flag displaying it at her home and wearing it
on her clothing. She and James were well known for their love for Persian cats and had a waiting list for
their kittens. She enjoyed playing UNO and writing details of her phone conversations and daily
activities. She was truly blessed with many friends and was a friend in return.
She is preceded in death by her parents, R.Y. and Elizabeth Gilbert, Ashland; the love of her life, James
Robert Harris, who she married on August 28, 1943 and loving husband, Emmett Farrington, who she
married on January 24, 2004; precious daughter, Wanda (Hugh) Harris Harkins.
She is survived by her sister, Louise (Robert) Gibson, Rainbow City; nieces, Ellen (Allen) Hawkins,
Rainbow City and Beth (Johnny) Lee, Southside; great-nieces, Laura (Zack) Miller, Springville and
Elizabeth Lee, Southside; great nephew, Brett (Jalin) Hawkins, Rainbow City; great-great nephew, Mason
Miller and great-great niece, Chloe Miller both of Springville.
Pallbearers wili be Noah Smith, Brett Hawkins, Allen Hawkins, Johnny Lee, Zack Miller, Ronnie Cash,
Larry Dalton, and Jay Willingham.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ernie McLain, Bruce Johnson, Susie Burnett, Danny Burnett, Mike Whorton
and all personal friends.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to her loving caregivers, Ernie and Amanda McLain who
brought Polly much love, joy, and laughter in the past 5 years. Special thanks to the staff at Gentiva
Home Health, staff at Coosa Valley Medical Center, Dr. Campos, and Dr. Elkhier for their love and
compassion.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Faith Worship Center 70530 Hwy. 77
Talladega, Alabama 35160.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday
