Heflin - Services for Katye Jo Curlee, 81, of Heflin will be Wednesday, March 22nd at 2 PM at Chulafinnee Baptist Church with the Rev. Marc Curlee, Rev. Ben Curlee, and Rev. Jason Bachus officiating. Mrs. Curlee passed away Monday, March 20th after a brief illness. The family will receive friends between the hours of 12 and 2 PM at the church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Curlee of Heflin, Marc Curlee (Shelley) of Heflin, and Alan Curlee (Lori) of Alabaster. One daughter, Pam Caudle (John) of Heflin. She was Maw Maw to nine grandchildren, Jason Bachus (Crystal), Adam Curlee, Matthew Curlee, Justin Caudle (Meredith), Alison Comardelle (Lawrence), Emily White (Scott), Ben Curlee (Shelby), Seth Curlee (Stephanie Rosser), and Thomas Curlee and five great-grandchildren, Cody Curlee, Kaylee Curlee, Claudia Caudle, Boaz Caudle, and Madelyn Comardelle.
She is also survived by a brother, K. K. Grubbs of Pell City and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Curlee was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Curlee, a son, Larry Steven Curlee, her parents Emmett F. Grubbs and Ista Grubbs, and a brother Kermit Grubbs. Pallbearers will be Adam Curlee, Justin Caudle, Seth Curlee, Thomas Curlee, Lawrence Comardelle, Scott White, and John Caudle. Mrs. Curlee was a native and lifelong resident of the Chulafinnee community in Cleburne County. She was a member of Chulafinnee Baptist Church. Mrs. Curlee was an accomplished pianist and served several area churches in this capacity. She was also a member of several gospel quartets through the years. She taught all of her children to sing and was the founding member of the Curlee Family quartet. She retired from Magic Chef in Oxford after 21 years of service.
