Obituary for Bernice Mae Cook

Bernice Mae Cook
Bernice Langley Cook, 93, was called home by her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 17, 2017. We will celebrate her remarkable life at 2:00PM on Sunday, August 20th at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin. There will be a visitation with the family on Saturday, August 19th from 4 until 6 PM.
Bernice is survived by her daughters Jean (Frank) Bonner, Jane Johnson, and her sons Ralph (Sonja) Cook and Chris (Darlene) Cook as well as her "adopted" daughter Margaret Estrada. Her grandchildren are Terry Bonner, Nicholas Bonner, Michael Johnson, Zachary Cheatwood and Christopher Cook. She had four great grandchildren - LeighAnn (Josh) Hudgins; Andrew Bonner, Kaitlyn (Josh) New, Landon Johnson; two great-great
grandchildren - Kingsley New, Kashton New and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

She was born in Anniston, Alabama and saw the beginning of the automobile age; witnessed the beginning of electricity; survived the Great Depression. She worked at Anniston Ordinance
Depot as a young woman, driving everything from jeeps to Sherman Tanks. Many of her nieces and nephews spent much of their lives at Aunt Bernice's house. She always made sure
everyone had plenty to eat. Anyone who knew her can attest to what a wonderful cook she was. Her biscuits could float off the plate and her cakes would make the angels sing. She loved
canning and her favorite time ofthe year was harvest time.

Jesus said, "For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was imprisoned and you came to Me." This is a testimony of Bernice's life - this is the way she lived. She may have had modest means, but she gave so much to so many.

Today she has heard Jesus say "Well done My Daughter" as she was greeted by her beloved husband, Ralph, her daughter, Jacqueline, her parents, Virginia and Robert Langley and all of
her loved ones in the great Cloud of Witnesses.
