Obituary for Pierce Helton "Jerry" Norton Sr.

Heflin - Funeral services for Pierce Helton "Jerry" Norton Sr., 87, will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 8, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Heflin, Alabama with Dr. Michael Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in the Heflin City Cemetery.
Visitation will be December 7 at Dryden Funeral Home from 5 until 7 PM.
Pierce Sr. passed away at the Cleburne County Nursing Home. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Pierce is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty, son Pierce Helton Norton II and his wife Debbie, of Tulsa Oklahoma, three grandsons and one granddaughter, Stephen Cole Norton and his fiancé, Misty Finch of Houston Texas, Blake Helton Norton and wife Breeanna of Owassa, Oklahoma, Logan Pierce Norton of Fayettville, Arkansas, and Taylor McCall Houser and husband Dwight of Arvada, Colorado, great grandchildren, Dwight Maddox Houser, Mason Pierce Houser, and Harper Rae Norton. A sister Ann Laminack and brother Julian Norton of Heflin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, M. Ellis and Grace Helton Norton, two sisters Mary Powell and Lucy Harris, and five brothers John, Woodrow, Martin Ellis, Willis G. and Frank.
Pierce graduated from Cleburne County High School and attended Jacksonville State University. He served two years in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas, it was there he met his wife Betty. After discharge they returned to Heflin where they made their home. Pierce retired from Ft. McClellan after working at the Chemical School until closure and then TASC, retiring in 1987.
Pierce was a member of the First United Methodist Church serving as Chairman of Trustees, Pastor Parrish Relations Committee and Official Board, and was instrumental in the installation of the stained glass windows. He loved his church and was there every Sunday to open the doors.
Pierce was an avid quail hunter and enjoyed feeding his friends and family with his quail. He was an Alabama Fan and member of Heflin Booster Club. He was a past member of Heflin City Council, Heflin Water and Sewer Board, and Heflin Lions Club.
Pallbearers will be Cole Norton, Blake Norton, Lynwood Williamson, Jerry Cheatwood, Jim Bennett, Harold Berryhill, Robert Pittman and Thomas Bennett.
