Obituary for Kathryn Sue McLeroy

Kathryn Sue McLeroy (June 24, 1949 - July 1, 2019) of Birmingham, Alabama is now gloriously in the presence of her Savior. Born and raised in Heflin, Alabama, Sue moved to Tuscaloosa after high school where she attended The University of Alabama. She graduated from the University's nursing school and spent most of her career caring for others as a nurse at the Birmingham VA and the past several years as a nurse for the Board of Education. She faithfully attended Huffman Baptist Church.

Redeemed and loved by Jesus, Sue extended Christlike compassion and generosity to all. Her kindness was evident to everyone fortunate enough to encounter her - family, friends, coworkers, church family, patients, and strangers. She was a humble servant who considered the needs of others before her own. In all her life, she exhibited confidence that her portion - knowing and being loved by Jesus - was far greater than anything on this terrestrial ball. Even in her final days, the hope and peace she found in God’s goodness and sovereignty were continuously on her lips.

Sue loved Jesus, her family and friends, and Alabama football. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Amy and Buster McLeroy. Her memory is treasured by many, including her siblings - Jane Coefield (BF), Terry McLeroy (Sandy), and Tommy McLeroy (Brenda); her nieces and nephews - Tim Coefield (Susan), Tam Nelson (Jim), John McLeroy (Kayla), Jeremiah McLeroy, and Molly McLeroy; a host of great nieces and nephews - Calley Coefield, Samantha Burnett (Thomas), Josiah Coefield (Alicia), Lucy Gary, Ena Hennessee (Alex), Amy Nichols (Michael), William Coefield, Rand Nelson (Carolyn), Jack Nelson (Brianna), Miller Hershey (Cory), Caroline Nelson, Park Nelson, Zach Nelson, Harley McLeroy, and Layton McLeroy; and her joy of this life, her great great nieces and nephews - A.J. Widner, Ela Burnett, Madison Gary, Harley Burnett, Aila Widner, Riley Gary, Bryce Burnett, Chandler Gary, Lilah Nichols, Finn Nelson, Josiah Coefield Jr., Betty Sue Nelson, and Sam Nichols.
